Ares is the god of war and the crude opposite of Athena. His favorite way of talking is the fight, which has priority in front of all other solutions. In every every bloodshed and in every war picture of the ancient time Ares can be seen standing there in full armour. Normally he is also considered as the unpleasant member of the 12 gods of the Olympus because of his thoughtless behaviour.

In Theban the people venerated him as the former founder of the city, since his daughter Harmonia was the wife of the Theban King Kadmos.

Ares had many love affairs and many children born from them. In one of them he even cheated Hephaestus with his wife Aphrodite and had numerous children with her (Harmonia is one of them).
