As
Cronos
cut the penis of his father Uranos some
drops of blood felt down on the earth and from them arise the Erinyen:
Alekto, Tisiphone
and Megaira. These
creatures were cruel and irreconcilable gods
that ruled about people's conscience and punished every breach of
someone's oath. For example, they hunted
Orest a great part of his life and, even
as the court in supervision of Athena considered him innocent, they continued to hunt him.
The Erinyen
appeared also in dreams and thoughts, making the guilty people listen
their voices all the time until they became crazy... and there was no place
on Earth where one could hide. In fact, they were a kind of divine justice
acting by their own responsibility.
